An important medical event titled “Management of Common Dermatological Emergencies” was held on Friday at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital. Around 300 dermatologists from different parts of the country participated in the program.

During the event, seven renowned dermatology specialists discussed seven different emergency-related skin conditions. However, the most talked-about segment of the day was the unveiling of the book “Kabir & Hasib’s Diagnostic Atlas – Common Skin Diseases of Bangladesh.”

The book has been authored by two of Bangladesh’s leading dermatologists, Professor Dr. M. U. Kabir Chowdhury and Professor Dr. M. Hasibur Rahman.

The atlas has been developed through years of clinical experience and extensive collection of patient photographs. According to experts, foreign standard textbooks often fail to accurately represent the real-life presentation of skin diseases among people in Bangladesh and South Asia.

This 600-page diagnostic atlas contains photographs of skin diseases at various stages on each page. It is expected to play a vital role in helping doctors accurately diagnose conditions, assisting students in building strong visual memory, and serving as an important indigenous resource on skin diseases in the country.

Professor Dr. M. U. Kabir Chowdhury stated, “Images in foreign atlases mostly depict diseases on white skin, which are not applicable to the Bangladeshi population. That is why there was a strong need for a local atlas.”

Professor Dr. M. Hasibur Rahman added, “The book has been designed in a way that makes the images easy to understand. It will be extremely valuable for both doctors and students.”

The book is now available at two locations in the capital—Clear Skin Center, Dhanmondi, and National Skin Center, Panthapath. The event was supported by SK+F Pharmaceuticals Limited as the scientific partner.
