Fire breaks out at building in Jigatala, brought under control in 30 minutes
A blaze broke out at a residential building in Dhaka's Jigatala this afternoon (16 January), hours after a fatal fire at a building in Uttara.
The fire broke out at around 2:30pm on the second floor of a four-storey building on Jigatala Notun Rasta. Upon receiving the alert, two firefighting units rushed to the scene and brought the flames under control by 3pm.
No casualties were reported in the fire.
Md Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the media cell at the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Business Standard that two units from the Hazaribagh Fire Station reached the scene at 2:50pm after receiving the report at 2:36pm.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 3pm after 10 minutes of effort, he added.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately, he added.
Earlier in the day, a fire broke out on the first floor of a seven-storey building on Road No 18 in Sector 11 of Uttara.
Two units from the Uttara Fire Station reached the spot at 7:50am, brought the fire under control by 8:25am and fully extinguished it by 10am.
At least six people, including three members of the same family, have died in that fire so far.
