No signs of remorse within AL, no place for it in Bangladesh: Shafiqul Alam
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Mohammad Shafiqul Alam has said there are no signs of remorse within the Awami League and that the party will find no place in Bangladeshi society.
"There is no discussion on reconciliation. Have you heard the Awami League say sorry even once?" asked Shafiqul Alam while responding to journalists' questions at the Brahmanbaria Circuit House around 10:15am today (16 January).
He said. "Just yesterday, an Awami League minister was seen making comments about the situation. They mock the blood of martyrs. We see no signs of repentance among them. Who will give them space in Bangladeshi society? Does anyone give space to killers? The place for killers is prison."
Speaking about the referendum, the press secretary said people would vote "yes" to show a red card against authoritarianism. "They will show a red card against 16 years of politics marked by enforced disappearances and killings. By voting yes, people will choose good governance," he said.
Shafiqul Alam also claimed that the election to be held this year would be among the most peaceful in recent times. "Very few elections in the past have been this calm. In previous elections, opposition parties were not even allowed to gather. Opposition leaders were arrested, sent to other cities, or jailed," he said.
"This election will be free, fair, peaceful and festive," he added.
