Teenager killed in shootout between 2 groups in Teknaf
A teenager was killed in a shootout between two groups in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf, police said.
The incident took place in the Noakhali Para area of Baharchara Union in upazila this evening (16 January).
The deceased has been identified as Sumaiya Akhtar, 17, daughter of Md Siddik Ahmed of the area.
Confirming the matter, Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam told The Business Standard that the deceased's body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
"An operation is underway to arrest those involved," the OC added.
Baharchara Union Parishad member Md Ilias said, "Armed men from the Rohingya camp went to the hilly areas in search of some people whom the human traffickers kept hostage. During this time, they had a half-hour-long gunfight, which killed the teenager."
"Residents of the hilly areas have been gripped by intense panic following the incident," he added.
Meanwhile, the deceased's father, Siddiq, said, "In the evening, I heard a sudden loud gunshot from inside the mountain. After a while, my daughter was shot in the chest and immediately fell to the ground. When she was rushed to the hospital, the doctor declared her dead."
He demanded a fair trial for the murder of his daughter.
