BMD forecasts five days of rain, heavy downpours

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the country over the next five days, with moderate to very heavy downpours expected in places due to an active monsoon and a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The BMD has advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep local warning signal No. 3 hoisted.

According to a weather bulletin, the seasonal monsoon depression over the northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast has intensified into a deep depression. The system is moving north-northwestwards and is expected to cross the West Bengal-North Odisha coast this evening.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at most places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions today, and at several places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Isolated areas across the country may experience moderate to very heavy rainfall during the forecast period.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said rainfall is expected nationwide over the next five days, with heavier downpours likely during the first two days before gradually easing. Southern parts of the country are expected to receive comparatively more rain.

The BMD also said day and night temperatures are likely to fall slightly tomorrow.
