Reports of Tk 120cr VAT evasion by Transcom unsubstantiated

A recent news report alleging that Transcom Group evaded Tk 120 crore in Value Added Tax (VAT) has stirred discussion across various quarters. However, relevant government sources have yet to officially confirm or validate the allegation.

According to sources at the National Revenue Board (NBR), the matter remains under administrative and regulatory review. Inter-departmental discussions are currently ongoing regarding applicable VAT rates, registration categories, and relevant statutory provisions.

Officials familiar with the development noted that presenting the issue as established VAT evasion before any final determination or official demand notice is issued by the NBR creates unnecessary public confusion.

Legal and tax experts pointed out that attributing a specific amount of tax evasion to an organization while a review is still in progress goes against established standards. Only a finalized NBR investigation report can establish an official position on the matter.

Meanwhile, government authorities confirmed that procedures are following standard protocols, and further action will be taken strictly in accordance with law once the ongoing inquiry is concluded.
