The Election Commission (EC) is holding a meeting to finalise the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election and a national referendum, both expected to take place simultaneously in February next year.
The commission will also review overall preparations for both votes ahead of briefing the president on December 10.
The meeting began around 10:45am at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin is presiding over the 10th commission meeting, joined by other election commissioners and EC officials.
Conducting the parliamentary election and the referendum on the same day has posed challenges in managing polling centres and voting hours.
Today's meeting is expected to consider increasing the number of secret booths and extending voting hours to accommodate the dual process.
The agenda also includes pre- and post-schedule activities as per laws and regulations, arrangements for the referendum, and a review of the latest state of preparations for the 13th national parliamentary election.
