Eight candidates withdraw from JnUcsu polls

Eight candidates, including two contenders for the vice-president (VP) post, have withdrawn their nominations for the upcoming Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUcsu) election.
The information was disclosed in a notice signed by JnUcsu Chief Election Commissioner Prof Dr Mostafa Hasan and issued by the university on Sunday.
Among the VP candidates who withdrew are Taosin Islam of the Department of Statistics (session 2024–25) and Mithun Chandra Roy of the Department of Social Sciences (session 2023–24).
Other candidates who withdrew their nominations include Mehedi Hasan Shuvo (general secretary), Riad Sarkar and Ujjal Chandra Das (education and research secretary), Asif Hossain (library and seminar secretary), Ashraful Islam and Abu Bakar Sampad (executive members).
Earlier, in a separate notice, the JnUcsu election commission had set December 13 and 14 as the deadline for nomination withdrawal.
JnUcsu elections are scheduled to be held on December 30.
