Govt forms 9-member taskforce for National Spatial Planning

The government has formed a nine-member expert taskforce to formulate and implement the National Spatial Planning (NSP), with the aim of incorporating spatial planning into the country's development framework.
According to an office order issued on 19 October 2025 by the Delta Sub-Division of the General Economics Division under the Planning Commission, the taskforce will determine the action plan for formulating and executing the NSP.
The National Spatial Planning (NSP) aims to guide balanced and sustainable development across Bangladesh by integrating land use, infrastructure, environment, and economic activities into a coordinated national framework.
The primary responsibility of the taskforce is to provide recommendations on strategies for the formulation and implementation of the National Spatial Planning.
Dr ATM Nurul Amin, emeritus professor at the Asian Institute of Technology and Honorary Member of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), has been appointed as the chair of the committee.

Professor Dr Selim Rashid, emeritus professor at the University of Illinois and Honorary Member of the BIP, Professor Dr Adil Muhammad Khan, president of the BIP, Sheikh Muhammad Mehedi Ahsan, general secretary of the BIP, Dr Farhana Ahmed, Centre for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS), AKM Riaz Uddin, member of the BIP, Syed Shahriar Amin, vice-president of the BIP, Professor Musleh Uddin Hasan, Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), a representative from the General Economics Division, Planning Commission.
The taskforce is expected to submit its recommendations to guide the preparation and implementation of the National Spatial Planning initiative.
