Govt sends 9 OSD secretaries into forced retirement

The government has sent nine senior secretaries and secretaries, who had long been kept as officers on special duty (OSD), into forced retirement.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate gazette notifications in this regard yesterday (20 October).
The officials are Shafiul Azim, AKM Matiur Rahman, Farid Uddin Ahmed, Md Nurul Alam, Md Azizur Rahman, Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Shamsul Arefin, Md Moshior Rahman and Md Manjur Hossain.
The gazette notifications said the officials will receive retirement benefits.
According to Section 45 of the Government Service Act, the government may send an official into forced retirement after 25 years of service without issuing any show‑cause notice, subject to the president's approval.
Following the fall of the government in the 2024 July Uprising, the interim government had earlier sent several secretaries, appointed during the Awami League government, into forced retirement. Later, a number of senior secretaries and secretaries were made OSD.
