The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Bangladesh and the Department of Social Services (DSS) today signed a Strategic Partnership Memorandum (SPM) in Cox's Bazar to strengthen child protection initiatives and expand support for vulnerable communities.
The signing took place at a hotel in Cox's Bazar, with senior government officials, development partners and humanitarian actors attending.
Speaking at the event, IRC Bangladesh Country Director Hasina Rahman said the three-year partnership aims to improve coordination and ensure better protection for children affected by displacement and climate vulnerabilities.
Samuel Komakech, IRC's Senior Integrated Protection Coordinator, presented an overview of the organisation's programmes, focusing on integrated protection services and community-based support.
Harun Ur Rashid, child protection officer at DSS, outlined a joint action plan for developing a child participation strategy, stressing the importance of involving children in decision-making.
Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf, the chief guest, described the partnership as an important step toward improving services and long-term support for children in crisis situations.
Senior DSS officials, including Director General Md Saidur Rahman Khan, and representatives from IRC Bangladesh and partner organisations were also present.
The programme concluded with remarks from IRC Deputy Director of Programme Rebecca Oketcho, who reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to supporting national systems and strengthening community resilience.
