BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's personal physician, AZM Zahid Hossain, today said the former premier will be flown abroad only when the medical board assesses her to be fit for travel.
Speaking to reporters in front of Evercare Hospital this afternoon, he said Khaleda's physical condition will ultimately determine when she can be taken abroad for advanced treatment.
"The air ambulance is ready. But even if it is ready, the priority now is her proper treatment, as well as her safety and security," he said.
Zahid said full preparations are in place to take Khaleda abroad.
"Whenever the medical board considers her physically ready, she will be transferred safely. We must remember that the flight will take 12 to 14 hours, and the human body undergoes changes at high altitude. It is not always possible for a seriously ill patient to cope with that," he said.
The BNP leader urged people not to be misled.
"Please keep this in mind. Do not be confused, and do not try to spread confusion," he said.
The BNP leader also said the air ambulance arranged by the amir of Qatar could not arrive due to technical issues. At the same time, the medical board members met urgently and advised that it would not be right for her to fly at that moment. This is why the process of taking her abroad is being delayed.
Zahid said the medical board remains highly optimistic about Khaleda Zia's recovery.
