Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said that he is not worried about a hectic schedule in the upcoming year and rather wanted more matches across formats.
Shanto and Co. are preparing for a Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh's (CWAB) All-Stars match match on 16th December to commemorate Victory Day. Ahead of the match, Shanto attended a press conference on Monday morning. The Tigers' Test captain said that playing opportunities is a wonderful prospect.
Bangladesh are set to play at least 12 Tests next year, with Test tours of South Africa and Australia also amongst their schedule. Shanto captained in six Tests this year, winning three of them and the skipper reflected on the team's performance.
"I think this year has gone well. Alhamdulillah, if you look at it, it hasn't been too bad," Shanto said during the press conference. "But yes, in the second Test match in Sri Lanka we could have played a bit better cricket. I definitely feel that the team we have now should have played better cricket," he added.
The Tigers have a busy year ahead with a T20 World Cup coming up alongside matches in other formats apart from Tests. Shanto however was not wary of a packed schedule.
"There are a lot of matches next year. We always hope to play many matches, especially many Test matches. So, the hectic schedule you mentioned — I don't really want to think about it because we want more and more Test matches, in fact more matches in every format. So having playing opportunities is a joyful thing. Planning has gradually started, and I think after the BPL ends we will move forward with a much clearer plan," he added.
