The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-4) has arrested Biplob Rosario, 40, one of the accused in the case over a university student's rape in Savar.

Squadron Leader Nazmul Islam, company commander of Rab-4 (Savar camp), confirmed that Biplob was arrested in Dhaka's Uttara around 3:15pm today.

Earlier in the day, a team from the Detective Branch of Dhaka North Police arrested Sohel Rosario, the prime accused, from Kaliganj in Gazipur around 2:30am. He was later produced before a Dhaka court with a petition seeking seven days' remand. The court granted three days' remand. 

Another accused, Mithu Biswas, 35, arrested from Tejgaon around 3:00am on Sunday, was also produced before the court, where police sought a seven-day remand. The court granted two days' remand.

According to Md Jewel Mia, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, a 25-year-old female student filed a case on October 16, accusing three individuals. In the case, Sohel of Kamalapur Gwalior area was charged with rape, while Biplob Rosario and Mithu were accused of abetting the crime.

The case statement said the incident occurred on the evening of October 14, when the victim returned home after tutoring a student in Savar. Finding her house locked, she went to collect the key from a nearby vendor. On her way back, she was approached by Sohel, who was later joined by Biplob and Mitthu.

Around 7:00pm, Sohel allegedly threatened her and took her to his residence, where he raped her with the assistance of the other men, said the statement. The victim alleged that the trio threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
