The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has temporarily designated the GSE maintenance area for storing goods following yesterday's fire at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport cargo village, sources in CAAB said.
Meanwhile, a high official of cargo department at Biman today told The Daily Star that major developments may come regarding smooth operations of import cargo village as the government is planning to start its operation within two to three days.
Currently, an area of 13,700 square metres is dedicated to dealing with imported cargoes in the two terminals, while the third one will add 27,000 square metres.
Customs authorities are conducting physical examinations of goods at the designated site, while Automated System for Customs Data connectivity has been established at Gate No. 9 to facilitate customs processing.
Officials of the NBR said that the release of goods is now being carried out through the newly designated gate to ensure continued cargo operations and minimise disruption to trade and logistics activities.
