A crude bomb exploded outside a National Citizen Party (NCP) coordination meeting venue in Bogura this afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Bogura Zila Parishad premises. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the party for the northern region, along with local leaders and activists, was present at the meeting inside the Parishad auditorium at the time.

According to police sources, miscreants threw two crude bombs in the Zila Parishad compound. One of them exploded, while the unexploded one was recovered by the police.

The explosion caused panic among leaders and activists of the party.

The Zila Parishad premises are located next to the superintendent of police's office. NCP leaders alleged that the incident demonstrates the failure of law enforcement agencies to maintain security.

"A group is trying to create an unstable situation centring the national election. If the law enforcement agencies had been vigilant, such an incident would not have happened today," said Sarjis.

Hasan Basir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station, told journalists, "Members of the law enforcement agencies were positioned outside the auditorium gate. The police entered immediately after the explosion."

According to him, the crude bombs were thrown from a building behind the Zila Parishad building. "Efforts are underway to nab the culprits," he added.

NCP held a protest march after the meeting concluded.

Earlier, Sarjis inaugurated the district party office near the Altafunnessa playground around 3:00pm.
