The Election Commission (EC) today began discussions with representatives of law-enforcing agencies to ensure that the upcoming 13th national election is held in a free, fair, and participatory manner.

The meeting started this morning at the EC headquarters in Dhaka's Agargaon.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, four other election commissioners, and the EC secretary are in attendance.

This is the first meeting of the Nasir–led commission with top officials of law-enforcing agencies as part of election preparations. The discussion is focused on maintaining law and order at polling centres and in electoral areas, along with other related issues.

Present at the meeting are Senior Secretary of the home ministry Nasimul Ghani, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, representatives from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as officials from the Armed Forces Division, Border Guard Bangladesh, Coast Guard, Ansar and Village Defence Party, Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, National Security Intelligence, Rapid Action Battalion, and the Special Branch and CID.

The EC launched its dialogue series on September 28, beginning with members of civil society, intellectuals, and academics.

The commission held a meeting with media representatives on October 6, followed by a session with women representatives on October 7.
