The Election Commission (EC) has decided to revisit the allocation of the "shapla" symbol (water lily), following a renewed request from the National Citizen Party (NCP).
According to the commission, the matter will be reviewed in light of existing electoral laws and regulations before a final decision is made regarding the party's preferred election symbol.
Speaking to reporters on Monday night, Akhtar Ahmed, senior secretary of the Election Commission, said, "We had asked NCP to choose from 50 available symbols and had given them time until October 19."
"On the final day, a party delegation submitted a renewed request for the shapla symbol. The matter will now be placed before the commission for further consideration," he added.
The shapla symbol has been at the centre of contention, as multiple parties have historically expressed interest in using it due to its familiarity among voters.
