Earlier, police arrested one of the accused, Mitthu Biswas, 35, in Dhaka's Tejgaon around 3:00am yesterday.

Md Jewel Mia, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said a 25-year-old female student had filed a case against three individuals on October 16, saying she was raped on her way home after tuition.

In the case, Sohel of Kamalapur Gwalior area was accused of rape, while Biplob Rosario, 40, and Mitthu were charged with abetting the crime.

Mitthu was produced before court yesterday, where police sought a seven-day remand. The court granted a two-day remand.

According to the case statement, the victim was returning home after tutoring a student in Savar on the evening of October 14. Upon reaching her house, she found it locked, as her mother had gone to work and left the key with a nearby tea vendor, the statement read.

While walking back from the vendor's shop with the key, she was approached by Sohel, who questioned her about different matters. Shortly after, Biplob and Mitthu joined him and started following her. Around 7:00pm, Sohel allegedly threatened her and took her to his residence, where he raped her with the assistance of the other two men.

The victim also said the trio later threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

Following the incident, students have begun staging protests against sexual violence at universities across Dhaka and other parts of the country.
